In the cultural form of veins and arteries, bloodletting was an ancient Greek system of medicine of the withdrawal of blood from a patient to cure or prevent illness/disease. Veins and arteries were filled with blood and a special tool had to be connect to the veins and arteries in order to get the blood out. It became the standard treatment for various conditions, including plaque and smallpox.
